Samsung Electronics has been reportedly increasing prices for its new Galaxy S26 and S26 Ultra smartphones as per ET News. The company is compelled to take such a decision as it is experiencing a rise in prices of key components in the smartphone supply chain.
Samsung's internal statistics from last February indicated that the cost of mobile chipsets had risen by approximately 12%, while camera modules had gone up by around 8%. Furthermore, memory components are also becoming more expensive: the price of LPDDR5 RAM, which is a key factor in high-end performance, has surged by more than 16% year-on-year.
The simultaneous increase in costs is exerting pressure on Samsung's production budget. Although the Galaxy S25 series kept the same prices despite facing a similar situation, the situation for the S26 series might be different.
Samsung might cut down the amount of the hike in prices by redisposing of parts from earlier models or negotiating better prices with the suppliers due to larger purchases. The company has always been selective regarding providing the performance and price by combining the latest and slightly older hardware, and this very tactic might be used for the S26 series.
In case Samsung rolls out significant hardware upgrades, especially in camera systems or AI capabilities, then the retail prices would be reflecting those added costs.
There are rumors about a postponed launch date for the Galaxy S26 series. The announcement might take place on February 25, almost a month after the Galaxy S25 launch in January. The delay would give Samsung more time to fine-tune production in the face of increasing material costs and market fluctuations.
The Galaxy S26 series is supposed to be the upshot of Samsung's high-end smartphone line. Nevertheless, some initial speculation indicates that customers might have to get ready for prices which are even higher than those of the past models.
